Michael Blair QC,
Chairman

Michael Blair QC was appointed Non-Executive Chairman of SWX Europe in July 2008. He joined SWX Europe as an independent director and Deputy Chairman of the Board in April 2007.

Michael is a London-based barrister specialising in financial services and financial services regulation.

He started in independent practice in Chambers at Three Verulam Buildings, Gray’s Inn, in 2000. Prior to this, he served as General Counsel to the Board of the Financial Services Authority from 1998 to 2000, and as head of the legal function in its predecessor body, the Securities and Investments Board, from 1987 to 1997.

Before 1987, Michael served as a government lawyer, latterly as an Under Secretary taking responsibility for the criminal and civil legal aid schemes in England and Wales, as well as for the higher courts and matters affecting the legal profession.

During 2008, he is the Master Treasurer of his Inn of Court, the Middle Temple, and is thus the executive head of one of the two Inns in the Temple during the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the grant of the Temple to Inner and Middle Temple by King James VI and I in 1608.

From 2001 to 2007 he was the Chairman of the Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration, which is a Prime Ministerial appointment.

Michael also serves as President of the Guernsey Financial Services Tribunal and as a Board Member of the Dubai Financial Services Authority, whilst continuing to edit and contribute to a number of publications in the financial services and wider legal fields.
